Instead of wasting time looking for a file that seems to have vanished, turn to the UltraFileSearch application for help. This file search utility will look for files, folders or text that is stored on your local drives, on your local network, DVDs, CDs, or Flash drives. Specify the name of the file you’re looking for, tell UltraFileSearch where to look, and it will go looking for your file.

The UltraFileSearch installation file is of 3.7MB. Run the installation file and a straightforward setup wizard will show up and guide you through the installation process. The application can be installed on any version of the Microsoft-developed operating system, from Windows 2000 up to Windows 7.

At the top, the UltraFileSearch's interface features a box where you can enter the name of the file you’re looking for. Underneath there’s a dropdown menu that you can use to tell UltraFileSearch where to look. To make sure you find what you’re looking for quicker, there are some search settings you can play with: include hidden subfolders, date and size, attributes, containing text. Once you hit the Search button, UltraFileSearch will go to work and it will display everything it finds in a preview window down at the bottom. You can open any entry from the search results list, or you can export the search results as TXT, HTML, XML, or CSV.

There are two editions of the UltraFileSearch application: Standard and Lite. The Lite edition is freeware, but there are some limitations, for example, you cannot define the folders to be excluded from the search and you cannot search in encoded text documents. The Standard version is feature complete and free to use for a 30-day trial period.
